A trim keeps your current beard shape and takes the length down evenly. A sculpt redraws the shape - cheek line, neck line, and the corners of the jaw.

Ask for a trim when the shape is already right and the beard has just grown past it. Ask for a sculpt when the look is changing: a full beard coming down to a short one, a round jaw squared off, or a soft cheek line brought up to a clean edge.

If you are not sure, say so at the chair. Your barber will read the growth pattern and tell you which one will hold.

A long beard, a full sculpt, or a shampoo can push it past the hour. Booking the beard with the cut is still faster than two separate visits.

Book a beard trim every two to four weeks depending on how fast your beard grows.

Between visits, brush the beard down and out while it dries so it sets in the shape it was cut. Leave the cheek line alone - shaving your own edge is the quickest way to lose the line the razor set.
